Tooth-Colored Fillings

When a tooth has a cavity, we remove the decay and fill it with composite resin that matches the color of your tooth. Unlike old metal amalgam fillings, composite bonds directly to the tooth and requires removing less healthy structure.

Most fillings are completed in a single visit. We use local anesthesia to keep you comfortable throughout.

Dental Crowns

A crown covers and protects a tooth that has too much damage for a filling to address. We recommend crowns for:

  • Teeth with large cavities or decay that can’t support a filling
  • Cracked or fractured teeth
  • Teeth that have had root canal treatment
  • Worn-down teeth from grinding
  • Broken cusps or old failing restorations

Crowns are custom-made to match your surrounding teeth in shape and color. We take impressions and place a temporary crown while your permanent one is fabricated. Most crown procedures require two visits.

Dental Bridges

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring a false tooth (or teeth) to the crowns placed on adjacent natural teeth. It’s a fixed restoration that stays in place and doesn’t need to be removed.

Bridges are a good option when:

  • One or two consecutive teeth are missing
  • The adjacent teeth are healthy enough to serve as anchors
  • An implant is not preferred or not yet feasible

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are restorations used when a cavity or damage is too large for a filling but doesn’t require a full crown. They’re custom-made in a dental lab and bonded precisely to the tooth.

  • Inlay: Fits within the cusps of the tooth
  • Onlay: Extends over one or more cusps

Both are made from tooth-colored materials and preserve more of the natural tooth than a crown would.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

For patients missing most or all of their teeth, dentures restore function and appearance.

Full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth. They rest on the gum tissue and are removable for cleaning.

Partial dentures fill gaps when some natural teeth remain. They clip onto existing teeth and can be removed at night.

We take accurate impressions to ensure the fit is as comfortable as possible. Adjustments are common after placement, and we build that follow-up time into the process.

For a more stable alternative, see our Dental Implants page for implant-supported denture options.

Full-Mouth Rehabilitation

Some patients need comprehensive treatment addressing multiple dental problems simultaneously. Full-mouth rehabilitation combines various restorative procedures to restore health, function, and aesthetics.

This might involve fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, and gum treatment. We develop a detailed treatment plan prioritizing procedures to achieve the best outcome efficiently. Complex cases may take several months to complete, but the result is a fully functional, healthy mouth.

Maintaining Restorations

Proper care extends the life of restorative work. Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, attend regular checkups and cleanings, avoid chewing extremely hard foods, and wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.

Regular checkups let us monitor restorations and catch any problems early. Small repairs are simpler and less expensive than addressing major failures.

Replacing Old or Failing Restorations

Old metal fillings, worn crowns, and failing bridges eventually need to be replaced. We assess the condition of existing restorations at every exam. When a restoration is failing, leaking, cracked, or causing decay underneath, replacing it early prevents a much bigger problem later.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if I need a filling or a crown?

It depends on how much of the tooth structure is healthy. A small to moderate cavity is usually treated with a filling. When decay or damage is more extensive, or when the tooth is cracked, a crown is typically the better long-term solution. We show you the X-rays and explain the reasoning.

2. How long do dental crowns last?

With good care, 10 to 15 years is typical. We evaluate the condition of existing crowns at every exam and let you know when one is approaching the end of its lifespan.

3. Are tooth-colored fillings as durable as metal ones?

Yes, for most teeth. Composite resin is strong enough for most restorations and bonds well to tooth structure. Very large restorations in back teeth may sometimes warrant a different approach.

4. Can I get same-day care for a lost crown in Charlotte?

In most cases, yes. Call us first thing when it happens. We reserve same-day slots for situations like this and can often place a temporary or permanent restoration the same day.

5. Does insurance cover restorative dental work?

Most plans cover fillings and often crowns at a percentage, typically 50 to 80% after the deductible. Coverage varies by plan. We verify your benefits before treatment and give you the out-of-pocket cost upfront.

6. I'm in Pineville. Is it a long drive to your dental office?

You can reach our dental office in under 15 minutes from most of Pineville via I-485. Most restorative visits are one or two appointments. We keep them efficient.
